At school, in our DTE lessons we designed a phone stand that we created on TinkerCAD and they will be 3D printed.
Brief: You have been tasked to make a functional phone stand for a year 8 student.
Specification: What does your phone stand need to do
It must…
- Hold a phone securely
- The phone must not fall off
- The height of my phone stand must be between 65-77mm
- The width of my phone stand must be between 75-90mm
- The depth of my phone stand must be between 40-55mm
- The height of the foot stand must be between 20-25mm
- The angle that my phone will rest must be between 30-55 degrees
It should…
- Be a relevant design for a year 8 student.
- Be a good looking design
- Stand out
It would be nice if…
- I could make it more detailed
- I could choose the colours
- Make it slightly wider
Place your designs for your phone stand here. Make sure you reflect on your designs by writing a WWW and EBI.

The first thing that went well was the design of my dragon. I first designed it on procreate and then transferred it to my computer. I then had to make some the changes on the computer to make sure that all the parts were big enough for a 0.3mm nozzle. After many experiments, I finally got the right measurements and managed to complete the project. I also think that a dragon is quite an exciting topic, so it is not a boring subject as a phone stand.
EBI
I could have drawn it out better to make it easier to find out the correct dimensions. I took quite a long time switching between ideas, and I could have thought about the nozzle width and therefore drawn my idea out from that. I could have also levelled out the legs so that were all on the same level therefore not needing the base.

There is one more problem I faced. What is I wanted to hold multiple phones, or something bigger. I would need it to have more depth. However, I Made the original phone stand the max depth, so, I duplicated the base only, and added some cylindrical pieces to allow them to fit in and stay.
